1. Durian Pancake/Crepe

Durian Crepe, or durian pancake or sometimes even known as durian pillow is essentially mashed durian which is mixed with whipped cream. Then, they are wrapped in a pancake. The Malaysians and people around the Southeast of Asia started crazing over durian crepe a little less than one decade ago. Now, you can easily get it at any bakeshop or street vendors. The good thing about this is that you don’t need to wait for the durian season to come in order to have it.

2. Dodol Durian

Dodol durian is a dessert which is a little chunkier in texture. When you eat it, the toffee-like confection will melt in your mouth. They are tasty and very sweet too. How is it made? It is made by boiling coconut milk before putting in essential ingredients like brown sugar, flour and the star of it all, the “lempok” (cooked and thickened durian flesh).

3. Durian Fudge

The Durian Fudge is made with shredded coconut, pitted dates, carob powder, vanilla and durian itself as the main star ingredient. The common fudge is usually made of only sugar, milk, and butter. It is just a twist of the original fudge recipe.

4. Durian Smoothie/Juice

Fast and rejuvenating. This is the fastest way to check out durian when it is not in its original condition. Durian smoothie is best believed to assist those who have insomnia and depression. This is because it has a high amount of vitamin C, antioxidants, and tryptophan. Aside from that, if you are into detox, this could be a great option too. 5. Durian Tart

Durian tart is not that easy to be found in bakery shops. Not as common as the traditional egg tarts. But if you are lucky, your local bakery shops may stock them quite often especially when the durian season is in. So if you want to try a Durian tart, be sure to ask around the next time you go to your local bakery shop.

6. Pengat Durian

Pengat Durian is perfect for tea time and breakfast. Malaysians are obsessed with the Pengat Durian especially the village folks. It can also be consumed with gluttonous rice or bread. This dessert is also famously known as Serawa Durian. They are pretty easy to be prepared too. The ingredients to make this dessert are plain water, brown sugar, coconut milk, several durians’ fleshes, pandan leaves, and salt.

7. Kerepek Durian

Can you imagine the texture of the durian flesh to be crunchy? Anything is possible in Malaysia. Malaysians are well-known for their creativity in inventing remarkable food. And so, “kerepek durian” is created. In English, you may call it Durian chips. The taste is the same with Potato chips (“kerepek ubi”) but slightly sweeter. Usually, they are made out of durian seeds. How is it prepared? The seeds will be submerged in a bowl of water for approximately 2-3 days until the outer layer skin falls off which is then make it easier to be peeled off. When it is soft, the seeds can be sliced and then fried with red onions and some garlic.

8. Durian Ice Cream

We seriously think that the majority of people do love ice-cream. Who wouldn’t like a refreshing and cold durian ice cream especially in a hot tropical country like Malaysia? Eating durian ice-cream is the same as eating any other ice-cream flavour. However, if you are not a big fan of eating durian in its original form, you can opt to try eating the durian ice cream to ease your hesitance.

Even though durian is a seasonal fruit, however with the proper packing and freezing method, a baker can have these fruits all year and sell them at their bakery. Prepared with coconut milk, red beans, palm sugar, and a myriad of fillers, it is a spectacular dessert to have during a hot day. The common fruits used to prepare the cendol are durian and coconut.
