N: Assalamualaikum and Hi! My name is Nurfatin Amalia Binti Hj Mohamad Yasin, a 25 years old girl from Johor Bahru, Johor – a southern state of peninsular Malaysia. I work as an executive assistant with a Government Link Company for about a year now. Previously I was a travel agent and has travelled as far as Singapore, Indonesia, China and in-bound tour, leading a tour group mainly comprises of personnel from government agencies.
T: What you would want to be known for besides travelling? (something that no one knows about you)
N: I love food and I’m so passionate about what I ate. I use to travel around locally searching for unique and nice traditional food that hardly can be found in the city. One of my all-time favourite traditional food is steamed tapioca with anchovy’s cook with onion and chillies.
T: What inspires you to travel and try various adventurous activities?
N: Dealing with my stressful working life and studies assignment, I feel that I really do need a break and go out to see the world. So happen, skydiving is one of my wish in the bucket list. I started browsing the internet searching for the best skydiving package deal and I found out www.sydneyskydivers.com.au has an interesting deal so I sign up and since then everything has been amazing!
T: Besides adventure, What excites you more when travelling? Meeting new people? Experiencing a new culture? food?
N: I enjoy meeting new people and experiencing the local lifestyle and tasting food that I never tasted before.
T: Your favourite local destination and why?
N: My favourite local destination is Johor as there are varieties of delicious food from its multi-racial population compare to other state. Rich in cultural diversity and friendly. Johor also is a gateway to Pulau Batam and Pulau Bintan, Indonesia. Having Singapore as our neighbour country, it gives us privileges to shop for the latest fashions and trend.
T: Your best travel incident/story that might inspire young women to travel
N: My best travel story that might inspire young women to travel is tandem skydiving in Sydney, Australia which I went recently (1st November 2016). I believe all other women out there should try this at least once in a lifetime. Although it is a high-risk sport, you must trust yourself in doing it and take that risk as a challenge. This is my first skydiving experience which I decided to do it by myself without any influence from others. As a young and energetic woman, I felt that by doing this I can learn to trust myself. When I was up there floating in the air, I can see this beautiful God created the world around me.
T: Any travel advises for Muslim women out there?
N: To Muslim woman out there, please don’t be taken aback with your status. Go out and explore the world without forgetting who you are as a Muslim. Explore the world as much as you can and go wherever you want to. Believe in yourself and be yourself. Don’t let anyone insult or make fun of you. The choice is in your hand and choose wisely.
