1. Terra’s Tree House, Cameron Highlands
If you never had a chance to spend a night in a treehouse as a kid, here’s your chance. Terra’s Tree House is located deep in the mountain region of Cameron Highlands and getting there requires a 4 wheel off-road journey for 4 km. Passing through a number of farms and orchards on a narrow and bumpy trail, the journey may take up about half an hour to complete.
There are six tree houses, an activity hall and a common kitchen. Note that the electricity is powered by a generator and only available from 6.30 am to 10.30 pm. After these hours, basically you have nothing much to do and that’s when you’ll feel connected to your surrounding. Spending your weekend here would be a perfect opportunity to distress from your workload and all the pressure.

2. Sekeping Serendah Retreat, Selangor
Set within 5 acres of tropical rainforest, Sekeping Serendah consists of 10 transparent and open buildings. They are intentionally kept open and basic to let nature take its course. If you’re worried about mosquitoes and insects, each room is equipped with mosquito nets and while there is no such thing as air conditioners but fret not, they still have ceiling fans. TV, WIFI and mobile networks are not available at the retreat so if you’re planning to finish your work or catch up with the latest news and gossips around the world, Sekeping Serendah is not for you.
I would suggest you to bring your own entertainment (like those books you got at Big Bad Wolf fair and never had time to read) and plan activities with your family and friends. In-between the lazy bouts, organize a picnic near the Serendah waterfall (10 min drive) or visit indigenous people village (5 min walk). All of these make Sekeping Serendah a great option for a short trip away from KL!

9. Malihom, Penang
This is my favourite on the list! In case you’re wondering, Malihom means a ‘village of the fragrant rice’. It is a collection of Thai rice barns which have been converted to a contemporary and comfortable living space. The barns were traditional buildings for rice storage but are no longer used in present-day farming.
Malihom offers 8 barns for rental and they’re all unique on their own. I strongly recommend ‘Khanun’. Khanun is a beautiful barn facing east to enjoy the sunrise and a lovely view of Georgetown, the capital city of Penang. Personally, I find Malihom a perfect place for a romantic getaway to spend time catching up with your loved ones in the unique picturesque setting. Have I mentioned that each barn has a private garden or a viewing deck?

10. Casabrina, Pahang
