Ramadhan, a holy and peaceful month is near. What have you prepared for Ramadhan this year? Here are 5 tips to help you prepare for Ramadhan.

“For each [religious following] is a direction toward which it faces. So race to [all that is] good. Wherever you may be, Allah will bring you forth [for judgement] all together. Indeed, Allah is over all things competent.” -Al Baqarah (2:148)

1. Qadha Fast

Before anything else, have you qadha your fast/ ‘ganti puasa’ from your previous Ramadhan? If you haven’t, this is the time for you to do so before entering a new phase of Ramadhan. This is not only crucial for girls but to men as well. As a Muslim, we need to ‘replace’ or ‘make up’ with the fast that we have missed. In case you haven’t, you need to pay for ‘fidyah’ or seek advice from any religious institution near you.

2. Voluntary Fast (‘Puasa sunat’)

Once an ‘ustaz’ (male religious teacher), Muhammad Nuzul Dzikri, in his lecture mentioned that even when an athlete wants to enter an Olympic or any games, they will practice or get prepared. Thus, in facing Ramadhan, the least preparation that we can do is by practicing the sunnah about fasting. Fasting on Monday and Thursday is a sunnah that our Prophet Muhammad SAW practice.  Try to fast on Monday and Thursday for you to get used to the unstable weather. Besides, you will gain ‘pahala’, too!

3. Plan everything

This is the crucial thing that you need to focus on. You need to plan your day for Ramadhan, as you know that all of the places might be packed. Plan your schedule, your iftar, and even your tarawih. You have to check on every restaurant or hotel since they provide affordable iftar session and a lot of people are looking forward to it.

4. Time management

Ramadhan is a month that helps us to be a better person. Before Ramadhan, you may adjust your time management. If you have free time you might opt to do a sunnah prayer or even recite holy Quran.

5. Take note on sunnah practice

In this holy month, everyone will try their best to collect rewards/ ‘pahala’ as much as they can. A lot of sunnah practice that you can apply in your daily life such as sadaqah.

“When a man passes away, his good deeds will also come to an end except for three: Sadaqah Jariyah (ceaseless charity); a knowledge which is beneficial, or a virtuous descendant who prays for him (for the deceased)” Narrated by Abu Hurairah, Sahih Muslim

The spirit of giving and remembering Allah is truly manifested during Ramadan in Makkah. Although, the emphasis remains on worship and not on food and festivities as in many other places. It is an amazing sight to see thousands upon thousands of people be all accommodated with dates and water (and even more) for the breaking of the fast. And as the Adhan is called, one cannot escape the sheer generosity of Makkans, offering food and water to all, regardless your background.
